Introducing: Ulik Enakis

Ulik Enakis is a Dunmer miner, who's life takes a drastic turn in the cold, harsh land of Skyrim.

Ulik has a wife, Liliah, and two children, Sherelle and Ulpar. Ulik and his family live in Helgen, although Ulik is there only once and a while as he earns gold working at the various mines around Skyrim.

Ulik has been in Skyrim for about 30 years. Before that he worked at the Ebony Mine in Raven Rock, Solstheim. When the mining at Raven Rock slowed down, Ulik and his newly wed wife moved to Skyrim where they found their home in Helgen.

Ulik has never been a religious man, but he, like most Dunmers, followed the ways of the New Temple in his time in Morrowind, the streets of Blacklight where he was born, and in Solstheim too. The years in Skyrim have diluted him from Azura, Mephala and Boethiah, and he has found himself praying on same gods as his fellow Nord miners.

Ulik loves his wife and his family, he's loyal to those who earn his trust, but there are not many who have. He doesn't shy away from lying, stealing and cheating if needed and it has gotten him into trouble more than once. He's had his share of drunken brawls with other miners and patron's of the local inns, and not all without casulties.

One man thought he'd better kill Ulik than to have another game of chance with him. The man thought Ulik would be an easy target, with his blind eye on the left, but he didn't know that Ulik could see very well with the eye and when the man realized that, he already had a dagger in his back.

For the last several months, Ulik has been mining at the Left Hand Mine in Markarth, making coin for himself and his family. On his way back to his family, taking a ride from a Khajiit caravan driver he met at an inn, he got ambushed by a group of bandits and was left for dead.

And this is where our story begins...

Ulik is not limited to any specific "class" or a set of skills as the game goes on, but his combat style leans towards sneaky, stealthy style (Archer / Nightblade / Assassin / Thief) where applicable.

This let's play is *not* DiD (Dead is Dead) and will go through the Main Quest (MQ) and the Dragonborn DLC. Elements of the Dawnguard and Hearthfire DLCs might be featured, but they're not the focus of this series. The commentary of this series is a mix of in-character (playing a role) and "normal" commentary.

Let's Play Dark Souls

Let's play Dark Souls. I've played the game before on XBox 360, but I've never beaten the game. I've only played up to Sen's Fortress, but never stepped in there. Now, I want to see if I can do it.

My goals for this Dark Souls playthrough: Have fun, overcome the challenges, beat the game, get engaged in jolly co-operation and (not) get whooped (too much) in PvP. I know the early part of the game fairly well, but after I reach Sen's Fortress, the LP will be blind - although I've watched plenty of Dark Souls LPs, but anyway, no first hand experience.

I plan to create a "Faith Build", focus on casting miracles and using Divine/Occult weapons. I also plan to join the Warriors of Sunlight covenant, aka Sunbros, to get some nice miracles (lighting spear), but also to do plenty of co-op. Later on, I might become Darkmoon Blade, at least for a while, to get them Darkmoon spells/gear. Those are the initial plans anyway :)

Starting this LP was also very much inspired by PlumpHelmetPunk and his Dark Souls LP, and Aavak's Dark Souls LP when I catched up with Plump's. Watching their LPs just made me want to play the game again too much not to :)

In addition to those two gentleman, I've enjoyed a lot and learned lots about Dark Souls from the videos of EpicNameBro and Vageta311.

I play Dark Souls on a PC with Razer Onza Tournament Edition controller. The shoulder buttons are somewhat clicky/loud, but it's fantastic, high-quality controller, which works for both PC and XBox 360.

Mount & Blade with Fire & Sword Trading Guide

Trade guide for Mount & Blade with Fire & Sword: Rough prices I used on my "Mount & Trade" videos of my let's play Mount & Blade with Fire & Sword. The threshold prices are not perfect, but they work fine: I made 50000 in an hour with trade-skill 3 on my level 2 character.

How to make money in Mount & Blade with Fire & Sword

You can make all the money you need from the battles, looting, selling the loot, and eventually the taxes when you get fiefs. However, trading is a good way to make money early on, to hire initial army and gear. And this guide should help you, if you've never done trading before.

Trading in Mount & Blade is simple, you buy low and sell high. The economy is dynamic, the prices change over time based on supply and demand. Different locations, the towns and the fortresses, produce and use different kind of goods.

Mount & Blade with Fire & Sword Trade Guide: Prices

Buy if you see a trade item for less than below.
Sell if you get a price higher than below.
You get the idea.

"BUY <" (and "B <") means "buy for less than"
"SELL >" (and "S >") means "sell for more than"

Use these as guideline to get started, not as strict rules. So feel free to pay a little more than in the list, and feel free to sell as long as you get more money than you paid for.

• IRON, SALT: BUY < 150, SELL > 250
• POWDER: B < 300, S > 500
• LINEN, CLOTH, WINE: B < 150, S > 200
• LEATHERWORK, BUTTER: B < 100, S >130
• POTTERY, MEAT, FISH: B < 40, S > 70
• SPICE: B < 600, S > 800
• OIL: B < 300, S > 400
• VELVET: B < 700, S > 900

There are many goods like Furs, Vodka, Shag, Hemp, etc I don't trade that much, but you'll quickly learn good price ranges for them if you use the assess prices often when getting started.

Also note that you can at times find some goods at extremely low price and similarly, you can sometimes be able to sell the goods for much higher price than the threshold.

If you want to see how the prices work in action, check the videos below (2 x 30 minutes of trading for over 50000 thalers / h).

Where to sell? Where to buy?

Buy wherever you are and get a good price. Sell where you can get a good price as you continue your route. Going counter-clockwise around the land seems to work OK.

Powder should always be sold to fortresses, the prices can go as high as 1000 and above. Thus, buy powder from towns, sell in cities.

While traveling between towns and fortresses, visit the villages as well. Villages pay well well for certain goods, but they don't have much money. If you find cheap food in village, buy'em and sell high in the next fortress.

If you're new to the game, use the "assess prices" for starters to get a hang of things where to sell, etc. And if your character doesn't have Trade skill, get Ingri to join you.

Using Caravans

If you see a lot of same items for cheap (e.g. 15 iron) and you have a decently sized army (to protect caravan from bandits/enemies), you can send (and escort) a caravan.

Use the Assess Prices in the marketplace to see where you get the best price (write it down if you think you won't remember).

Go talk to the Mayor. Talk about Trade. Say that you want to send a caravan. You'll choose what caravan (e.g. Iron if that's what you're hauling) and then the place the caravan will go.

If/when you escort the caravan, 2 guards is enough. Then just accompany the caravan and keep bandits away until caravan arrives in destination.

If you find yourself using caravans a lot, invest in the trade permit, which costs 2500 thalers. With that you don't need to pay the 5% tax for the caravan.

Investing / Merchant's Guild

As soon as you get an extra 10000 or more, go to a town (choose one friendly to you, or better yet, one you own), go to Town Square, Merchant's Guild and put most of the money there. Money will grow 14% interest (20% if you control the town or have good enough relations with the town) every week without you doing anything.

If you don't like trading (buying low, selling high), just keep on fighting and conquering, sell the loot and put excess money in the Merchant's Guilds.

About Let's Play Day Z

I'm thrown to a 15x15km (225 square km) open-world post-soviet state of Chernarus, in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, where the zombies are fast and dangerous - at least after they see or hear me - and the other players are even more deadly.

I (role)play the game like I was actually there. I prefer living over getting killed, so I'm very cautious and try to avoid dangerous situations. This game is hardcore, always ironman (dead is dead), so I consider everything I do very carefully - like I probably would if I'd find myself in a middle of a zombie apocalypse.

With both zombies and other players, if I'm firing my guns, something has probably gone wrong already. Also, I prefer playing on hardcore servers (No 3rd person view, no crosshair, no player names).

Yngvarr

Yngvarr is an average chap. Not a hero by any means, unless picking flowers or buying and selling goods makes a man heroic. He is a Breton goods peddler and a recreational alchemist who, before arriving in Skyrim, isn't aware of all the powers hidden within him.

His father was a Nord caravan guard and mother is a Breton healer. Yngvarr was born in Elinhir, a town in Hammerfell, but he never really had a place he or his family called home, as he became a travelling merchant like his parents were.

Yngvarr came to Skyrim looking for an adventure, for a new beginning for his life, but he barely made it past the mountains when he ran to an ambush by the Imperial forces and was knocked out before he had the chance to talk.

About this let's play

This is more "serious" role-play than most other let's plays. I also play with a slow-paced style that is not for everyone.

Yngvarr needs to sleep, drink and eat, and he can't be running all the time. Unless there's specific reason to run and sprint, Yngvarr will walk, like a normal person would. Yngvarr can't reload the last save if things don't go his way, so if he dies, he dies.

I'm recording and uploading all videos in Full HD 1080p (1920x1080).

Mods and Tweaks

As of now (around part 97), I'm using about 135 different mods and/or texture replacers. I have ~50 esm-/esp-files active (I haven't done Bashed Patch) - some mods add multiple files, so there's roughly 40 real "mods".

Since the mod list is mile long, I have a Google Doc up where I list all the mods (and my Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini): http://goo.gl/TYPWx.

It's not a guide, just a list of mods I'm using. I won't answer ANY QUESTIONS about how to install mods, how to fix if Skyrim crashes, etc.

I'm using several graphical enhancements mods and HD textures that enhance the looks of the game while staying true to Bethesda's designs and Elder Scrolls lore and keeping the game playable as I'm recording in 1080p.

At first, I used STEP - Skyrim Total Enhancement Project as a guideline (compilation of many, many mods, mostly HD Textures, but also other graphical tweaks). Later, I started removing mods and adding other mods too.

I'm using Nexus Mod Manager to install and update all the mods, you should too. (or use Wrye Bash if you want hardcore)

Another NOTE: Overmodding your Skyrim will make it more and more likely to crash. Know your computers and graphics cards limits before tweaking the graphics settings and adding HD textures and such. In case you're interested, my rig is i7-2600K (Overclocked @4.5Ghz), SSD drive and Nvidia GTX 590 (3GB) as listed in my FAQ.

How to Beat Barrett in 60 Seconds or Less - Deus Ex Human Revolution

To defeat Barrett:

1. As soon as the battle begins, throw a EMP granade on Barrett (if you have one)
2. Strafe/turn right, grab one of the gas canisters on the right
3. Throw the gas canister on Barrett
4. Run to the left or straight down the right side, grab the explosive barrel, throw it on Barrett
5. grab next gas canister or one of the fire extinguishers, throw it at him
6. run to another explosive barrel, grab it, aim, throw it on Barrett
7. repeat 5-6
8. (if you run out of things to throw, Barrett should be damaged enough for you to finish him with any gun)

Here's quick video showing how to defeat Lawrence Barrett, elite member of a secret mercenary hit squad, and get The Bull achievement.

I used over 45 minutes on the first boss battle of Deus Ex Human Revolution, trying to win the fight with guns, which I hadn't used at all before that as I was playing "stealthily", avoiding enemies by sneaking past them, or taking them down without killing them...

Anyway, after almost an hour I had to give up and I looked for help on how to win Barrett. I found an easy way, which got the job done (even that it was a bit "boring" way to win the fight), but at least I was able to continue this awesome game.

And here's a video I made to show you how to do the same...

This is my let's play Minecraft Survivalism mod on hard difficulty, just one life and hardcore mode (save file is deleted when out of lives).

The survivalism mod adds energy, thirst and hunger meters to the game, forcing me to drink, eat and rest regularly in addition to the normal Minecraft survival.

Update: This let's play was first pending and then, after waiting for months, cancelled as the survivalism mod wasn't updated after Minecraft BETA 1.7.3 version. Feel free to enjoy the episodes that are there, but it ends after 4 episodes, with 5th being "the end".

The Witcher 2 Signs & Magic

In The Witcher 2, Geralt has the knowledge of signs from the beginning.

Aard – a telekinetic wave that can throw back, knock down or stun an opponent. This sign can also be used to destroy obstacles, for example crumbling walls or stacks of barrels.

Igni – fire magic, throws flames that wound opponents & make gas (from bombs) explode. Upgraded Igni sign has a chance of incinerating opponents and also has a larger area of effect.

Yrden – a magical trap placed on the ground (wounds & immobilizes opponents when triggered). The sign's basic level allows you to place 1 yrden sign on the ground (With upgrade, up to 3 yrden signs at a time).

Quen – a protective shield that lasts for 30 seconds at the sign's basic level. It is a sign that Geralt uses on himself – quen absorbs all damage directed at Geralt, and the upgraded version reflects 50% of the damage back toward to enemy. While quen is in effect, Geralt cannot regenerate vigor.

Axii – charm an opponent. When the charm is successful, the enemy becomes an ally for a short while, fighting for you.

Heliotrop – not available immediately, needs points in the magic skill tree. The Heliotrop Sign creates a temporary immobile circular force-field area around Geralt, which considerably slows down everything inside the field except himself.

The Witcher 2 Traps

Clawer - Wounds and causes bleeding. Damage: 30 – 55

Rage - Causes foes to attack each other.

Biter - Wounds with shrapnel. Damage: 10 – 30

Talgar Winter - Slows foes down. Damage: 20 – 30

Conflagration - Incinerates foes and detonates other traps within range. Damage: 20 – 50

Snare - Wounds and causes bleeding. Damage: 30 – 50

Harpy trap - Effective against harpies.

Kayran trap - Effective against a kayran.

Nekker trap - Effective against nekkers.

Used trap - No longer usable
